Following an MDG-F-backed cultural mapping exercise aimed at identifying unique cultural resources, the villagers of Baijiu in Congjiang province pooled resources to revive their local bull fighting tradition, dormant since their bull-ring was destroyed in road construction.
Close to 20,000 people from surrounding areas came to the historic four-day event and more than 100 villagers benefited from small-scale business activities. One woman earned 4,000 yuan selling candies and fruits – almost three times the average annual wage in this impoverished community.
