Empowering indigenous communities in Panama

 

Until recently, inhabitants of Bisira— an indigenous community in the heart of the Panamanian region of Ngäble Buglé — did not know what it meant to have safe water. Since 2009, Rural Water Management Boards have been established, making communities responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of their own water systems.
