Lessons learned in health, nutrition and feeding programs. Report of Sucessful Experiences in Child, Food Safety and Nutrition Joint Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean

Summary

The report discusses eight food and nutrition safety programmes, describing each one in detail and identifying the best practices and lessons learned for replication. The eight programs described are based on three main programmatic outcomes: promoting integrated approaches; promoting and integrating policies guaranteeing access to food and child nutrition; and strengthening food safety valuation, monitoring and assessment.

These programmes included nutritional packages; actions aimed at improving health care coverage of pregnant women and children and its quality; promotion of healthy practices; improvement of farm production and small husbandry at household and community level; strengthening information systems for decision-making; and risk management, among others. Special emphasis was placed on policy strengthening with a particular focus on the region's rights, gender, and multicultural issues.
