Colombia: Eliminating female genital mutilation

Female genital mutilation (FGM) affects 140 million girls and women worldwide. After a newborn indigenous girl died following the procedure, the MDG-Fund worked with the Embera Chami people of Colombia to transform the practice of FGM from within the community itself, helping to find an alternative that would replace its cultural meaning without risking the health of little Embera girls.
