Rooted in time

“This photograph shows Rayén Maripillán with her grandmother, Hilda Carrera. Rayén’s father, Manuel, is indigenous, while her mother’s family is from Spain. Both come from traditional families, and when they fell in love, their parents were very opposed to their marriage. They went through difficult times, without the support of their families, and because Manuel could not find work. But when
Rayén was born, their lives, and relations between their families, began to improve. Rayén is the symbol of brotherhood between the two cultures, the product of the love of two people who put aside prejudices and differences.”
